Disability Rights Texas is the federally designated legal protection and advocacy agency (P&A) for people with disabilities in Texas. Our mission is to help people with disabilities understand and exercise their rights under the law, ensuring their full and equal participation in society.
This position provides advanced legal, administrative and secretarial support to assigned attorneys and other staff by producing accurate and timely legal and administrative work through a smooth running, well organized infrastructure.
Responsibilities and Duties
Preparing legal documents and correspondence including pleading, briefs, opinions, complaints, administrative decisions, orders, and subpoenas
Review and edit documents for proper formatting and content as required by the court
Prepare trial notebooks, exhibits, and materials for appearances and hearings
File documents, schedule hearings and docket cases
Composed routine correspondence, run and analyze reports, maintain calendars and court dockets
Assist with research and provide information and technical assistance to others
Coordinate meeting arrangements
Qualifications and Skills
Bilingual in Spanish
High School Diploma or GED plus three years of full time experience as a legal secretary
Strong and effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to do so in a concise manner regarding complex issues
Excellent detail-orientation, follow-up, multi-tasking and organizational skills
Willingness to take direction and independently follow through on instructions timely.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal relationship skills.
Advanced computer / technology literacy (specifically on Microsoft Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint) and demonstrated experience electronic case records management .
High commitment to service excellence while maintaining high degree of integrity, ethics and judgement.
